Police all over the United States are reporting that many women are being prostitution. But the new development is that instead of forcing the women to work out on the streets, they are advertising their services on the Internet.
By using free classifieds services like Craigslist or Backpage, pimps advertise women by taking sexy pictures of them and posting it on those sites. The "john" then calls the number listed to make an appointment.
This has lead many people to say that these types of websites are helpers in human trafficking and must be shut down. This past summer, famous actor Ashton Kucher got into an argument with Backpage over the use of their ads and how it human trafficking.
There are many issues at play here. Although everyone would like to stop prostitution and human trafficking, there are free speech issues that must be accepted. Some people say that it is better to have prostitutes advertise online because it allows the police to keep track of them.

But other people say that making prostitution legal, then women will become safer. Since having sex is not legal, if something bad happens to them, they can easily go to the police. They don't have to worry about corruption and bribery by officials.They won't have to hide from the police because they are doing any other job that is legal.
I still need to learn more about this issue. Either way, I hope people will work together around the world to stop human trafficking.
